Free Homeschool Curriculum

A complete list of free homeschool curriculum! Homeschooling for free is doable. There are tons of quality curriculums out there for zero cost! There are online courses, downloadable courses, and some even send you the materials. You can also mix and match. With COVID-19, a lot more people are turning to homeschool. My husband taught for over ten years, and my degree is in elementary education. I decided to homeschool my children before I even became a parent.  I hope to be a resource of free information. I have another post (here) where I have highlighted free teaching materials, and it’s full of valuable resources as well. We use many of them in our homeschool classroom. This post will focus on the curriculum.

Khan Academy – This is a very valuable resource. They offer full lessons that are organized by subject area and include videos and curriculum. The best part is you can create an account and track progress.

The Good and the Beautiful – This is a favorite of mine. I feel like it is very thorough. They offer Free Language Arts Homeschool Curriculum for Level 1-5. Even though it says it is LA, some social studies, Art, and other subject areas are definitely in there. It is a very solid curriculum. Lots to print! I recommend this printer, I have had and used it a TON for months and the ink hasn’t even moved!

AmblesideOnline is a free homeschool curriculum that uses Charlotte Mason’s classically-based principles to prepare children for a life of rich relationships with everything around them.

Discovery K12 is a free, online homeschool curriculum for students worldwide and offers 7 standard courses:

  • Language Arts
  • Reading/Literature
  • Math
  • Science
  • History/Social Studies
  • Visual/Performing Arts
  • Physical Education

MobyMax is a free homeschool curriculum that is aligned with common core standards. It is widely used in public schools and includes the entire curriculum. If you want an upgrade, there is a paid version available that includes additional features like progress monitoring, custom assessments, differentiated instruction, and more.

Connections Academy also offers a free homeschool curriculum. The online public school program is free, including all of the books and curriculum. The only additional cost is optional field trips. You can learn more here.

Under the Homes is another free homeschool curriculum that is inspired by the Charlotte Manson method, and uses materials available in the public domain. It is a complete 36-week online curriculum for kindergarten through fifth grade.

PASS this one is specifically for homeschoolers with special needs. They offer complete textbooks in downloadable (PDF files) from the Parallel Alternative Strategies for Students (PASS). They are for students with various learning needs and are presented in an easy-to-understand format.

Easy Peasy is an all in one free homeschool curriculum for Pre-K through 8th grade.

MIT, as in the private university, has several courses available for free online where the goal is specifically to help high school students prepare for AP exams. It gives students a glimpse of what they will study in college.

Free Homeschool Worksheets

If you want to supplement your curriculum or you feel your child needs just a little more work before progressing to the next concept, here is a list of some quality free homeschool worksheets.

  • Education.com is a great website. They have a lot of free homeschool worksheets on just about any subject.
  • 123Homeschool4me Has tons of free worksheets and hands-on activities, printable games, and more. It is organized well and super-easy to use.
  • The Relaxed Homeschool also has some great stuff to offer, which includes free homeschool worksheets, but also a no-prep, free preschool curriculum.
  • Worksheet Fun is filled with free homeschool worksheets broken down by subject area and lessons. They even have math graph paper.

This may seem obscure, but for free homeschool activities, I want to emphasize that Facebook groups can be valuable. That is where I found our local group. Much like traditional schoolers, these kids have grown up together. We plan weekly park days so they see each other consistently. We do field trips and also camping trips several times a year. This has been our most valuable free homeschool resource. Just do a Facebook search and find your local tribe.

Finding a free homeschool curriculum can be an overwhelming task. I hope that this helps you one your homeschool journey!

Homeschool Education Resources

Looking for free teaching materials from companies and organizations? This is a huge search several times a year in my super large homeschooling group. These ladies helped me pull together a pretty amazing list of resources that you can grab for free!

We personally have done the Hotwheels kit. We got it last year and we uses it almost weekly for fun and lessons. It is an absolutely amazing kit, with interactive lessons that the kids love. It is by far our favorite FREE teaching material that we have had sent to us.

We also have Lego magazine and frequent the NASA stuff. we live close to NASA and are planning a trip there soon!

Dinosaur Train Educational Resources – Toolkit & Poster – The poster highlights the Pteranodon family and offers tips to engage children in nature. We hope you enjoy using these resources to encourage scientific curiosity in young children.

What We Do lesson plan kit – It is designed as a supplement for the average high school or entry-level college economics course. It aims to help you teach about the role of the nation’s central bank in a new and multi-modal way.

Lego Club Junior – The free LEGO® Life magazine is for kids between the ages 5 and 10 living in the US and Canada.

Maps and Travel Guides – Here is an alphabetical list of free state maps available from most state tourism departments.

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library – High quality, age-appropriate books directly to your home.

Firearm Safety DVD from NSSF – What if a child were to encounter a firearm in an unsupervised situation? NSSF addresses this safety concern through educational video programs appropriate for school safety curriculums.

Book It! – Book It! has a program just for homeschoolers. We do this one and the kids love the reward system. Jon and I also did this as a kid, so it it super special!

Tinkercad – Tinkercad is used by designers, hobbyists, teachers, and kids, to make toys, prototypes, home decor, Minecraft models, jewelry – the list is truly endless! We use this and LOVE IT! See how we made a 3D Minecraft Creeper!

The Good and the Beautiful offers a completely free academically sound, full year of  Language Arts instruction. You can download multiple grades, I have used it for all three of my children and it truly is beautiful.

Khan Academy is a wonderful resource. They offer  math, grammar, science, history, SAT®, AP®, and more. You can enroll in classes and learn at your own pace.

Brain Pop JR. offers learning games, movies, and activities.

Maker Stations 3 Free Weeks of maker stations, using stuff from around the house,  to keep your children creating at home!
